The Farm

‘Miss Pat’ farm founder and matriarch started this farm “on a dream and a dollar” in 2010. She hoped to bring a greater level of food and RESOURCE SUSTAINABILITY to our bridgeless island. As proof of this institution’s need, community members rallied to raise funds, build fence and plant seeds.

What was once a heavily wooded lot is now 8 acres of well developed farm land. Each of our 20 structures on the farm were built with milled timber from our land and constructed ENTIRELY by volunteers.

Through many high highs and low lows, this farm has remained an integral non-profit BENEFITTING the local community through classes, workshops, tours, local produce and much more. We boast sustainable, beyond organic practices and host a variety of spoiled animals including goats, chickens, geese and ducks.

The overlap of community and agriculture is apparent here. In the same way the environment cares for the members of its ecosystem, we reflect this interaction. Volunteers and donors have kept this farm running and the farm provides in return- making a balanced system.

The farm is sustainable for years to come because rather than synthetic inputs, our inputs are common sense and genuine- people and otherwise.
